Website, email and domain checks before your busiest months

The Extrion Tech News Brief No. 03

Busy months are when a slow website, a bounced email or an expired domain costs the most. This issue is a checklist to run now, while it is still quiet.

Open your website on a phone over mobile data, not on the office Wi-Fi, and time how long the first page takes. If you see "Resource Limit Is Reached" or pages that load only sometimes, the hosting plan is at its limit and needs attention before traffic grows.

Send a test email from your business address to a Gmail and an Outlook account. If it lands in spam or never arrives, check the SPF, DKIM and DMARC records for your domain. Finally, look up when your domain renews and make sure the reminder goes to an inbox someone actually reads. An expired domain takes the website and email down together.

Security updates

Turn on two-step verification for business email, the hosting control panel, the domain account and your social media pages.

Remove accounts belonging to people who have left, and change shared passwords when someone with access moves on.

Useful developments

Most Tanzanians go online through a mobile phone, so most visitors see your website on a small screen over mobile data. Design and test for that first: compressed images, readable text without zooming, and a phone number that can be tapped to call.
